The Supreme Court here on Friday admitted a petition of RELA (an NGO) against the irregularities in the construction of the Polavaram Project and issued notices to the Centre and the state governments of AP, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh along with the Tribal Welfare and Water Resources Departments and the National Monitoring Committee seeking their response and adjourned the hearing.

​New Delhi: The Supreme Court here on Friday admitted a petition of RELA (an NGO) against the irregularities in the construction of the Polavaram Project and issued notices to the Centre and the state governments of AP, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh along with the Tribal Welfare and Water Resources Departments and the National Monitoring Committee seeking their response and adjourned the hearing.

Senior Counsel for the NGO Nirup Reddy argued that the project was being undertaken with scant regard to the environmental rules and regulations that too without proper clearances or announcement compensation to the tribals affected by the project.

The SC bench consisting of Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Kanwalkar said it would club the petition with that of the pending cases filed by former IAS officer B D Sharma and Prof Kodandaram and hear the same.
