Chittoor: First of its kind in the State, District Collector Siddarth Jain took an initiative to organise a special grievance cell for physically disabled at the Collectorate here on Saturday. Joint Collector P S Girisha and district officials concerned have received petitions from the petitioners. The grievance cell will function on every first Saturday in a month for physically challenged. After launching the special grievance cell, the Joint Collector said that there is an absolute need to resolve problems of for physically disabled on priority basis.

He stated that the State government is committed for the welfare of the physically disabled. “Monthly pension for physically challenged was enhanced from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500,” he added. The JC assured of taking measures to provide concessional passes for physically disabled to travel in RTC buses and trains. He instructed the Assistant Director (Disabled Welfare) to issue identify cards to all the disabled at the earliest. He advised banks to sanction loans to the disabled on humanitarian grounds.

It may be mentioned here that several physically challenged have submitted their petitions to the Joint Collector. Some of them have appealed to Girisha to sanction tricycles and revise pension amount. Joint Collector 2 P Venkata Subba Reddy, DRDA Project Director Ravi Prakash Reddy, Assistant Director Srinivasa Rao, District Minority Officer Prabhakara Reddy, District Tribal Officer Eswara Rao and other officials were present.
