Visakhapatnam: A 24-year-old woman from West Bengal Jharina Roy and her companion Devraj Samal from Odisha were arrested on charges of smuggling ganja in rural district of Visakhapatnamon on Saturday. According to Makavarapalem police, five persons, including Jharina Roy, were carrying 80 kgs of ganja and were proceeding from Narsipatnam to Thallapalem junction when the police intercepted their Honda City car and checked the contents.

As soon as the car stopped, the three accused Sameer Swain, Tukuna Behera, both from Odisha and Killo Krishna Naidu, a tribal from the Agency area fled the spot.

The police produced both the persons before the Additional Judicial First Class Civil Magistrate in Narsipatnam, who remanded them in 14 days judicial custody.

In another incident, the officials of prohibition excise department seized 650 kgs dry ganja and arrested one person near Damuku area under Ananthagiri mandal in the Agency. Based on a tip off, the excise personnel intercepted the van and found that the dry ganja neatly packed in gunny camouflaged under vegetables and was being transported to Odisha.
