Eluru: A two-day international seminar on ‘Sustainable tourism: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities’ was inaugurated at St. Teresa’s College meeting hall here on Friday.

The East Environmental Advisory Convention of Tamil Nadu and St Teresa College jointly organised the seminar.

Gunapalan, President of the South eastern University of Sri Lanka, participated as chief guest at the inaugural session,.

While addressing the students, Gunapalan said that tourism sector provides vast opportunities to take up development activities at historic and other places around the world.

“Tourism is playing a vital role in country’s economy. He stated that tourism not only helps generate income but also provides an opportunity to tourists to gain knowledge on new places,” he said.

In his speech, Prof Teki of Adikavi Nannayya University explained on the tourist centres in Andhra Pradesh.

College Management Department Professor Dr Uttama Durga Devi coordinated the programme. College Principal Sr. Mercy, organiser Dr G Marietta DeMello, Mother Ernestine Fernadez, Dr Sahaya Raj (Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu), Dr Bennison Tilagar and Durgalakshmi also addressed the seminar.

Speakers from Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Professors and students from various States have submitted research papers on the occasion.
