Kakinada: A 22-member BFSc (Bachelor of Fisheries Science) student group representing the Central Agricultural University, Lembucherra of Tripura State, has visited Uppada, Tallarevu, Kakinada and Vakalapudi fishing harbors, Bhairavapalem in East Godavari to witness the fisheries activity being taken up extensively.

According to the Fisheries Development Officer (FDO) State Institute of Fisheries Technology (SIFT) and in-charge of Micro Biology
Department of the Institute and Scientist Shaik Dishad, the students will gain rich exposure to the traditions and culture of fisher folk in the
state. Besides, the students will have an opportunity to develop an understanding on the measures being adopted by the fishing community on
fish catch, preservation and sale of fish, the FDO said.

The visiting student team will have first hand information on fresh water fish culture, brackish water culture, and good management practices in
shrimp culture, disease management in shrimp culture. AP occupies major chunk of share in aqua exports from the country. The visiting team of
students were also explained in detail on technical know how on alternative species culture and allied activity.

The visiting team of students were briefed on disease management in PCR lab by in-charge, FDO and senior scientist T Vijaya Bharati.

Besides, she detailed them on shrimp seed quality management. One of the girl students, Malemnganbi said that the visit gives them immense
exposure to them not only to learn about better management practices in fisheries but also about the tradition and fishing activity all over the
country. Interaction with local fisher folk also helped us in several ways, she said.
