​Vijayawada: More than 3,000 students had a miraculous escape when a fire mishap took place in the laboratory when they were performing science expo experiments.

This incident took place at Ravindra Bharathi school located in Satyanaranapuram here on Monday at about 2.30 pm. As the flames engulfed in the fourth floor of the building as many as 3,200 students ran helter and skelter and safely came out of the school building unharmed.

Immediately on receiving the information, the Fire Department officials rushed to the school and controlled the flames within 10 minutes. The officials put off the flames and prevented spread of fire to the other classrooms.

Speaking to mediapersons, Ravindra Bharathi School zonal in-charge Siva Narayana Raju said as soon as the fire mishap took place the school management immediately informed the Fire department and before they reached the spot all the students were safely shifted to other branch of the school.

“No student was injured in the fire mishap and only a few tables and books were burnt down,” he added.

Meanwhile, VMC 44th division corporator K Mallikarjuna Yadav said that the managements of all schools should provide fire safety measures in the schools to avoid fire mishaps and to protect the students from any eventuality.

He demanded that Ravindra Bharathi school management should utilise the second gate also instead of closing it as the students can safely come out from the building when such incidents take place.
