Tirupati: In the concluding session of the three-day, 91st annual general meet of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), held from February 5 to 7, AIU Secretary General Professor Furqan Qamar said that high efficiency in teaching faculty is the need of the hour in Indian universities and emphasised the importance of higher education.

More than 400 Vice-Chancellors (VC) from across the nation, who took part in the meeting, opined that one India-one education policy has to be implemented by the Government of India for higher education.

VCs further recommended controlling of the business trends in private universities by the government.

In the meeting VCs have come up with more than 25 resolutions on different current academic, administration, examinations and curriculum issues to be followed at universities level.

Furqan Qamar, the chief guest of the event said, “Higher education is not for some higher sections, it must be availed by all classes of the society.

Presently higher education sector is facing many challenges, primarily lack of budget provision and creation of new higher learning institutions.

Gross enrolment in present higher education is 16 per cent this ratio in backward classes of the society is only 2 per cent and this indicates the poor registrations in higher education from grass root level.”

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao addressing the VCs at AIU said, “Human resource is playing a vital role in development of various fields in the country.

HR development is more important in the present days.” The Minister also said, “The AP government introduced choice based credit system in all universities and brought in private universities bill to allow the private institutions in higher learning resulting in top 9 private universities of the world coming forward to establish their institutions at various places in the State.”

SV University VC A Damodaram said SVU hosted three national events in a period of two months.
