The farmers and people of various delta mandals including Mogallu village in Palakoderu mandal have staged Maha Dharna in front of Collectorate here led by CPM district Committee. Addressing the dharna, Madhu said that West Godavari is now becoming a hub of illegal ponds.

“This is nothing but destruction of humanity and TDP government has surrendered to aqua mafia and diverting the people under the guise of aqua hub.

The district administration has not taking any steps even as thousands of fertile land were converting into aqua ponds against the G.Os. 7 and 15,” he alleged. He stated that the State government has pledged lakhs of people’s lives for the foreign exchange by profiting the landlords and big shots.

He expressed concern over the illegal cases against the agitating people who are fighting for their right cause and described it as undemocratic and heinous act.

He warned the State government that if it should not stop the human destruction under the guise of aqua hub, people will teach a lesson to TDP and assured support from CPM to the people who are fighting for the just cause.

CPM district secretary B Balaram demanded the government to stop the illegal digging of aqua ponds in Mogallu, Gollalakoderu, Pamulaparru, Juvvalapalem, Cherukuvada, Yandagandi, Garagaparru, Korukollu, Jallikakinada, Adavikolanu, Polamuru, Munipalli Kanuru, Korpalli, Kavitam, Achanta Vemavaram, Toleru villages.

He pointed out that the prawn cultivation has been banned in delta area of the district and expressed concern over the illegal cultivation by digging salt water borewells. Due to this illegal borewells, the crops are getting damaged causing severe hardships and losses to farmers and tenant farmers.

He also demanded the government to take steps to save the water sources in the district from the aqua ponds pollution.

CPI leaders Bandi Venkateswara Rao, K Krishnamacharyulu, K Kannayya have extended their solidarity and support to the agitating people.

CPM district leaders Juttiga Narasimhamurthy, K Raja Ramamohan Roy, Gudipati Narasimha Ra, DNVD Prasad, B Somayya, R Lingaraju, M Anjaneyulu, AP vyavasaya Karmika Sangham district secretary Jakkamsetti Satyanarayana, AIDWA secretary D Kalyani and others participated in the dharna along with the farmers.
