The Central government proposed to organise National Deworming Day on February 10 in which Deworming drugs would be given to all the children in the age group of 1-19 years on Friday at all the medical institutions, schools Anganwadi centres, he added.

Addressing a meeting held at DMHO office on Thursday, the Joint Commissioner made it clear that deworming would be the sole device for keeping the health free from various diseases “ In Chittoor district 6.80 children in the age group of 1-19 years would be covered under the National Deworming Programme.

Instructions are given to the educational institutions to administer the drug to all the students in which the teachers, anganwadi workers would play a vital role,” he added.

He stressed that due to poor sanitation and open defecation, the germs would enter into the body and make the organs inactive. Deworming would be done once in six months for each one, he added.

He said that government was struggling for achieving Swacch Andhra Pradesh by way introducing number of schemes. He reiterated that the involvement of the people would be the dire need of the hour for making the Government schemes success.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr.Vijaya Gouri said that instructions were given to all Primary Health Centres to conduct deworming drive without leaving out any child.

A special appeal was made to Project Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan to deploy the teachers and anganwadi centers for covering all the student of Primary, Upper Primary and High Schools.

She said special teams were formed to monitor the programme adding that District Collector Siddarth Jain would review the progress of the campaign.

Later, Dr.P L Jayachandra Reddy interacted with the presspersons and appealed for creating awareness of the event.
