​Amaravati: Pavitra Sangamam, as it is called for becoming a meeting point for the Godavari river with the Krishna through the Pattiseema lift scheme, let the women, the silent majority, break their silence and reiterate the demand for equality in all the public spheres, by hosting a three-day national women parliament.

The women’s conclave, graced by the presence of a galaxy of personalities of international fame and stature, got off to a colourful start on Friday.

The stars who let the parliament shine included Shirin Sharmin Chaudury, first woman Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament, Kiran Bedi, first women IPS officer and Lt Governor of Puducherry, Ela Ben Bhatt, founder of the Self Employed Women’s Association of India, film stars Manisha Koirala and Juli Chawla.

The venue located on the banks of the serene Krishna river facing Amaravati endowed with a world famous Buddhist site; on the other side drew more than 10,000 women from across the country representing polity, social services, media, films, judiciary and professional services for a common cause.
