Vijayawada: TRS MP from Nizamabad Kavitha Kalvakuntla on Friday expressed her willingness to fight the AP’s battle for special category status (SCS) in keeping with the public sentiment.

In an informal chat with a section of media personnel, Kavitha, before she moved to the national women parliament, said she intended to take up the cause if the sentiment for the special category status is strong in AP.

Responding to a question, she said Andhra Pradesh is like a toddler who needs handholding from the Centre and it is the responsibility of the latter to implement all the assurances made in AP State Reorganisation Act, 2014.

“Telugu-speaking people are one regardless of the state division and I am always ready to defend the cause of AP beyond the state barriers,” Kavitha said.

Speaking at the NWP session later, Kavitha hailed the AP government for holding the conclave which will go a long way in the history of struggles being waged by women for equal rights and equal share in polity, jobs and economic benefits.

The TRS MP at the end of her speech struck the right chord by raising the slogans Jai Telangana and Jai Andhra. She felt elated over her visit to Amaravati which has a hoary history of hosting the rich Budhist culture while expressing her longing to see Amaravati as a pivot of development in the days to come.

Kavitha later visited Sri Kanaka Durga temple in the city and offered prayers to the deity.
