Visakhapatnam: “Judgments delivered with the mutual consent of both parties in Lok Adalats are of permanent nature and needed no appeals to higher courts. It could be considered that real justice was done to the litigants only when they receive proper compensation”, remarked District Judge P V Jyothirmaye.

Addressing the inaugural function of the National Lok Adalat programme held here on the district court premises on Saturday under the aegis of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), the District Judge complimented judicial officers, police and advocates for putting in lot of efforts to render immediate justice by settling long pending cases through mediation/counselling.

She also complimented the district administration for depositing a sum of Rs 26.76 crore for payment of compensation to the displaced whose lands were acquired by the APIIC.

Stating that 15 Benches were set up for the speedy disposal of pending cases, the District Judge called upon the litigants to come forward in settling the cases.

Joint Collector G Srujana thanked DSLA for organising National Lok Adalat in the district for rendering immediate justice by infusing confidence, trust and faith on the judiciary among litigants in a democratic set-up.

If the litigants approach courts for each and every small issue, the workload on the judiciary has been increasing and the right way of redressing issues is only Lok Adalat, she added.

Joint Commissioner of Police Sattar Khan disclosed that the DGP has directed the police personnel to go to the litigants and to see that maximum long pending cases are settled. He said that there are lot of benefits if both the litigants and organisations come together to settle cases.

4,536 cases come for settlement:
For the first time in the history of Lok Adalat, order copies were made ready for redressal of 4,536 pending cases of which 97 are of bank cases, 157 land disputes, 297 cash settlement cases, 192 road accident cases, 136 of civil nature, 692 bounced cheques, 50 marriage disputes, 61 belong to industrial disputes, 15 tax cases, 2802 criminal cases and the remaining to other areas.

xDistrict Judge Jyothirmaye, Joint Commissioner of Police Sattar and Senior Manager of United India Assurance Company Mahapatro after settling a case, presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh as compensation to a litigant victim Devudamma whose husband was killed in a hit and run incident in the on-going National Lok Adalat.
