​Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya state General Secretary P Durga Bhavani demanded that Union government should implement Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) for the urban poor who don't have employment.
The Samakhya General Secretary spoke to newsmen at CPI State office on Monday after returning from national level meeting at Nagpur in Maharashtra. The National council had discussed various issues related to women and passed resolutions, she said.
The council meeting was felt that Acts are not perfectly implemented on protection of women, she added. She further said that freedom, equality and women empowerment have been neglected by the Union and State governments.
Food security problems have increased day by day due to un-employment and the governments have not provided employment to urban people, she alleged.
Durga Bhavani praised the initiative taken by State Government in conducting Women Parliament, but the government had ignored collective suggestions from various women organisations during the meeting, she felt.
She made it clear that her Samakhya would organise agitations for the empowerment of women and on supply of nutrition food to women and child.
Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya Secretaries A Vimala, A Padmavathi, Vice-president Vijaya Lakshmi and treasurer P Durgamba were present.
