Vijayawada: The local unit of the Congress has decided to fight on the issues of drought and drinking water problems in the State.

In a meeting here on Monday with District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents and city Congress committees presidents, APCC President Raghuveera Reddy said the State government was negligent in taking measures to mitigate the prevailing severe drought conditions and drinking water problems in the State.

He wanted DCC presidents and city Congress presidents to present memorandums to district collectors across the State demanding relief measures on February 25 over the issues.

Raghuveera said meetings would be conducted to expose people’s resentment on demonetisation scheme and other failures of Union and State government from February 26 to March 1 in all district head quarters and from March 5 to 15 in all constituencies’ head quarters.

The PCC president said people’s ballet would be conducted in all constituencies’ head quarters from March 5 to 30 and targeted gathering of opinions of two crore people during the programme.

Raghuveera wanted party leader to strive for the success of party candidates in the MLC elections and prepare for the local body elections too.

He demanded action against the accused in a minor girl rape case in the Amaravati area and alleged that Telugu Desam Party leaders were trying to protect the accused.

MLC C Ramachandraiah, former minister K Bapiraju, Kondru Murali Mohan, party leaders Gidugu Rudhra Raju, TJR Sudhakar Babu, former MLA Malladi Vishnu and K Sivaji were present.
