Prior permission needed for telecast of poll advertisements
Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) Member Secretary P Venkatraju Goud informed here on Monday that any election advertisement to be telecast either through electronic media or cable networks needs prior permission.
- Advertisements meant for publication in print media also need advance permission
Visakhapatnam: Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) Member Secretary P Venkatraju Goud informed here on Monday that any election advertisement to be telecast either through electronic media or cable networks needs prior permission.
He said if any advertisement relating to the ensuing MLC elections is telecast without prior permission, it comes under violation of Section 6 of the Cable Vision (Regulation) Act, 1995 and if any such violations are observed by the authorised official, the total equipment of the particular cable operator will be seized.
The Member Secretary further informed that the contesting candidates are not supposed to give any election related announcements or advertisements hurting the public sentiments or provoking agitations or differentiating caste, creed, religion or language.
He felt that the cable operators must have the knowledge on these important matters before accepting the advertisements for telecast and the Election Commission of India will closely monitor all media reports and events telecast through cable channels and electronic media.
Even print media advertisements need permission: Venkatraju Goud further informed that even the print media advertisements also need prior permission from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee which closely monitor the violations including paid news.
The MCMC which has district and State level committees, will closely monitor the contents of all news papers, electronic media, cable channels, cinema halls, radio, FM Radio, SMS messages, social media and audio visual display of political advertisements.
For obtaining the prior permission, the candidates must submit the application form along with two copies of the attested script of the proposed advertisement. The cost of the advertisement along with a detailed break-up must be given and a statement must be enclosed stating that all payments have been made through cheque or demand draft and all these particulars will be examined by the MCMC, he added.
