RTC to run 400 special buses to clear extra rush

Tirupati: On the occasion of Maha Sivaratri festival, the APSRTC Chittoor region will operate as many as 400 special bus services to various Saivite pilgrim centres in the district and also outside to two other districts.

The special buses will be operated from various places in the district to as many as 12 Saivite pilgrim centres including Srikalahasti (65 buses), Sadasivakona (45), Mallayyakonda (40), Talakona, Mogili, Srijhuri 30 each, Kailasakona (20), Siddeswara Konda (10) and Kukkoti, Payal Centre, Gudimallam and Mallappakonda two to five buses for three days from February 23 to 25. In a press release, Deputy Chief Traffic Manager (DCTM) P Chandrasekhar said last year only 350 buses were operated and ferried about 2.5 lakh pilgrims while this year 50 more buses are being operated and expected to transport about 3 lakh pilgrim in the district.

The operation of special buses also include 60 buses to Kotappakonda in Guntur district and 25 to Srisailam in Kurnool district, he said appealing devotees to utilise RTC bus services for the pilgrimage on the occasion of Sivaratri festival.
