Visakhapatnam: While opposition backed Congress candidate, independents and Left leader are blazing their guns over separate railway zone and Special Category Status, it became a curse for the TDP-BJP combine candidate P V N Madhav, whose campaigning is yet to pick up momentum. The elections will be held on March 9.
North Coastal Andhra has become the centre for agitation for both the issues and this was reflected on January 26 at RK Beach when police foiled the silent protest.
All the candidates except Madhav are campaigning on railway zone and the Special Status giving assurance to the graduates that they would step up the agitation. Madhav in his campaign at Port Stadium here on Monday confined himself to talking on unemployment, establishment of more skill development centres, industrial sickness and jobs in private sector for the local youth.
In addition to the two issues, Madhav is not getting active support either from TDP leaders or his own party bosses. Though party State president and local MP Dr K Haribabu, and party’s floor leader in State Assembly and Visakhapatnam North MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju vouched for his candidature, they are yet to be seen in the active campaigning.
In the Monday’s campaigning with the morning walkers, Madhav was seen with a handful of party workers and not even city office-bearers of the party were seen.
“Senior leaders will swing into action soon and we are sure to win,’’ Madhav said. The BJP leaders representing Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha, State Assembly and Council will mean something for north coastal Andhra in the ensuing years, he added.
Meanwhile Left backed Aja Sharma has backing of teachers’ federation who also helped MVS Sharma win with a huge margin in the previous elections. Independent candidates are yet to be seen in the field.
