Visakhapatnam/Eluru: In one of the biggest hauls of recent times, police seized nearly 3000 kg of ganja at two locations. The agency police personnel seized 1,972 kgs of dry ganja, valued at Rs two crore and arrested three persons at Chintalaveedhi area in Paderu of Vizag Agency on Tuesday.

In yet another case, they seized 1,200 Kgs Ganja from a bran-laden truck at Fatimapuram village in Chintalapudi Mandal of Eluru on a tip-off, conservatively estimated to be worth Rs 70 lakhs.

Loaded in a tanker, ganja was being smuggled to East Godavari from Pedabayalu. The police intercepted near Chintalaveedhi by Paderu police, following a tip-off. This is third time that an oil tanker was used to smuggle the weed to evade the enforcement officials.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Paderu, Mahendra Mathe said that the arrested were identified as Kantama Reddy Durgi Naidu (native of Atchutapuram), K Rajesh (native of Boithili) and M Naveen (native of Tuni) and one more accused K Rajesh managed to flee from the spot.

The DSP said that a Mahindra Scorpio was travelling in front of the oil tanker as pilot vehicle and based on concrete information the police intercepted the Scorpio and oil tanker and seized the huge quantity of ganja, which was neatly packed inside the tanker.

In addition to the ganja, the police also seized Rs 2 lakh in cash and three mobile phones from the gang. Police registered a case under Section 20 (B) of NDPS Act and are investigating to nab the masterminds in the case. The preliminary investigation revealed that Kantama Reddy Durgi Naidu is the owner of both the vehicles.

In the Eluru case, according to police, Jangareddigudem DSP J Venkatrao got information that some people were smuggling Ganja bags under a Bran load in a truck from Chhattisgarh via Khammam, Chintalapudi to Tadepalligudem.

Immediately, the police team headed by CI Das camped at Fatimapuram near Chintalapudi town and started vehicle checks. During the check, they stopped the truck .

They thoroughly checked it and found 31 bags of Ganja under the bran load. The police seized the bags and took the lorry owner SK Nagur Meera of Vijayawada and another Driver Sivaram Prasad of Gudiwada into custody.

The accused confessed that they were transporting the ganja up to Dwaraka Tirumala and from there other people would take the load to Tadepalligudem.
