Vijayawada: YSRCP MLA Roja on Tuesday announced that she would fight a legal battle against the State government and the police for her detention on February 11 at Gannavaram when she came to attend the National Women’s Parliament (NWP) organised at Pavitra Sangamam at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada.

She said the police unnecessarily detained her and forcibly took her to Hyderabad in a vehicle.

Addressing the media conference at the YSRCP district office at Gandhi Nagar, Roja came down heavily on DGP N Sambasiva Rao and the police, who detained her at Gannavaram airport.

She said Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao had sent two invitations to her to attend the NWP that was the reason she came to Gannavaram to attend the meeting.

She said the police had committed a blunder by detaining her at the airport and taking her to Hyderabad without citing any reasons. She also made some harsh comments on DGP N Sambasiva Rao.

She said the DGP should not act as a slave to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Roja stated that the police have announced that she was detained because of her past track record.

She angrily sought to know about her past track record. She recalled that earlier she had been in TDP for 10 years.
Roja said that she had never toppled any government in the State and there was no record of bomb blasts at her home.

She said she had every right to attend and speak at the National Women’s Parliament held at Ibrahimpatnam.

She compared the NPW with a kitty party and recalled that daughters and daughters-in-law of political leaders and big corporate leaders were given a chance to speak and national leaders who fought for women’s rights like Medha Patkar and Brinda Karat were not invited.

She said daughters of Venkaiah Naidu, KCR, Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and daughter-in-law of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu were given a chance to speak and branded the conference as Corporate Women Parliament rather than Common Women Parliament.

She said the NWP was held like TDP meeting Mahanadu with most speakers belonging to the TDP and corporate sector.
