Vijayawada: APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy met the residents of Ajit Singh Nagar, who were suffering from smoke and foul smell coming from the dumping yard, and demanded the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation shift the dumping yard immediately from there.

He, along with Vijayawada City Congress president Malladi Vishnu and other APCC leaders, visited the dumping yard and spoke to the local residents on Tuesday.

Later, he sent a letter to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu requesting the latter to shift the dumping yard from Ajit Singh Nagar to other location.

He said that the dumping yard spreading around 40 acres covering Ajit Singh Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Bombay Colony, Devi Nagar, Prakash Nagar and Kanakadurga Nagar and 300 families staying in those area suffering from health problems, he said.

Residential areas should be at a minimum of two kilometres away from the dumping yard, he pointed out. He reminded that the areas have become breeding ground for mosquitoes. The ground water is also contaminated due to dumping yard, he said.
