Vijayawada: The 26th Baseball Junior National Championship being conducted at the NTR Stadium in Gudivada in Krishna district reached semi-final stage on Friday. Host Andhra Pradesh boys and girls teams ate a humble pie in quarter final matches. Interestingly, both the teams were defeated by Maharashtra. Semi-final matches will be conducted at the NTR Stadium in Gudivada on Saturday.

In quarter-final matches, all the teams have fought for win. Interestingly, in baseball game each team played five innings. Host Andhra Pradesh boy’s team was defeated by Maharashtra by 10-0 runs while in girl’s section AP team was trounced by Maharashtra by 6-3 runs. Both the Maharashtra boy’s and girl’s teams entered semi-finals.

In girl’s section, tough fight was witnessed between Kerala and Chandigarh. Both the players performed well in hitting and tried to make runs. This was prolonged for two hours and at last Kerala beat Chandigarh by 2-1 runs and entered semi-finals.

Results: Boys section: Punjab beat Bihar by 8-1 runs, Rajasthan trounced West Bengal by 10-2 runs and Maharashtra humbled Andhra Pradesh by 10-0 runs.

Girl’s section: Maharashtra beat Andhra Pradesh by 6-3 runs and Kerala beat Chandigarh by 2-1 runs.
