Vijayawada: With mercury levels in the city rising, the prices of vegetables soared proportionately at various markets here. The prices of leafy vegetables saw sudden rise. While the main Rytu Bazar at PWD Grounds was closed on Friday, Rytu Bazars at other places such as Vidyadharapuram and markets like Kaleswara Rao market were open on Maha Sivaratri.

Though the supply position at many markets and Rytu Bazars was not changed, prices of some vegetables were sold at high prices. Brinjal was sold at Rs 14-a-kg while its price four days ago was Rs 10. Cluster beans saw Rs 4 rise per kg. It was Rs 14-a-kg the other day and was sold at Rs 18 on Friday. Rise in prices of scarlet runner beans from Rs 12-a-kg to Rs 20 surprised the consumers.
