Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy alleged that State government utterly failed in tackling the drought situation and warned that the Congress party would organise a mass protest in Anantapur if the government fails to respond on severe drought situation prevailing in the State within March 10.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Raghuveera said the State was not given funds by Centre while the neighbouring Karnataka government managed to get Rs 1,750 crore to mitigate drought after the State had sent a report in October, 2016. “Is it not a shame to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu” he queried.

Raghuveera said “The State government has remained a mute spectator over drought conditions even as lakhs of people are migrating to other States searching livelihood from Rayalaseema and other regions. Vulnerable farmers are selling their cattle to slaughter houses due to non availability of fodder”.

Despite severe drought, he said, the State government had not release input subsidy for the last three years and crop insurance scheme. On other hand, Telugu Desam leaders were involving corruption practices in works of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The Congress leader alleged the Telugu Desam government did not fulfill even a single promise that it made during the 2014 elections.
