Vizianagaram: The State government is planning to bring new act to restrict the illegal liquor shops. Commissioner for Excise and Prohibition MK Meena on Tuesday said that they were mulling to bring on a new act as illegal liquor vendors were getting bail with ease at the station.

“Under the new act, such cases will be booked under non bailable sections. If the trader sells the liquor at more than MRP, they will be penalised to pay up to Rs 5 lakh,” he informed.

Stating that the department would employ remote sensing technology to identify ganja cultivation, Meena stated that all liquor shops, bars were required to install CCTV cameras from the next financial year.

“Any violations in this regard, will be punished seriously. All the shops, bars will be linked with central server and each and every transaction will be recorded at server. We will conduct awareness programs on country and illicit liquor on every Saturday,” he added.
