The project, which envisages, erection of 16 pumps, is estimated to cost Rs 237 crore.Addressing a meeting on the occasion, Naidu said the project would be completed in three months. Over 5,000 cusecs of water will be pumped in to River Krishna during flash floods to Kondaveeti Vagu and balance flood water would be diverted to Krishna western delta through left main canal to ensure water to tail-end areas.

The Chief Minister said that inland water transport would be encouraged by reviving the Buckingham canal and several internal canals. He predicted that the entire area with water front and canal side areas would be developed to attract tourists. Despite scanty rain fall, the state government is able to achieve 24.5 per cent growth in agricultural and allied sectors, he noted.

Thanking the farmers of the capital region for making the development a reality, the Chief Minister said that the Interim Secretariat was completed in a record time and the Assembly session was scheduled to
be held in Amaravati capital this month.

He expressed happiness when some farmers of Karamchedu thanked his for supplying water saying that the paddy production was doubled and they had achieved 60 bags of yield per acre.

However, expressing concern over some leaders who were hell bent on politicising everything, he said these leaders had tried to politicise even the tragedy like bus accident and threatened Krishna district collector Babu A.

Earlier, addressing the meeting minister for water resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said Chandrababu Naidu took initiative to solve centuries-old problem of Kondaveeti Vagu flash floods. Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande welcomed the gathering.

Ministers Prathipati Pulla Rao, Ravela Kishore Babu, MP Galla Jayadev, MLA Sravan Kumar and others took part in the programme.
