CWC Designs and Research team to inspect Polavaram Project
Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said Central Water Commission Designs and Research wing team will visit Polavaram project from March 6 to 9 to finalise the designs.
Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said Central Water Commission Designs and Research wing team will visit Polavaram project from March 6 to 9 to finalise the designs. He sought the engineering experts in the State to visit the project site and give their valuable advices for speedy execution of the project.
Participating in 15th Engineers Day celebrations organised in memory of eminent engineer Dr K Sriramakrishnaiah at Tummalapallivari Kshetraiah Kalakshetram here on Friday, the Minister said that works of various irrigation projects were going on at a brisk pace as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on making the State drought-free.
He stressed the need for creating awareness among students on the progress of irrigation projects particularly Pattiseema and Polavaram projects. The Minister described farmers as engineers as they adopt various methods to save standing crops even during drought conditions using available water resources.
Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department Sasibushan Kumar said that for the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh, the government was able to utilise 125 tmcft of water through Pattiseema and Pulichintala saving crops in lakhs of acres and providing water to Rayalaseema.
Irrigation Advisor to govt Cherukuri Veeraiah explained on the availability and usage of water. Senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao described the Polavaram project as a gift to the State.
Engneering students from several colleges, who visited Pattiseema and Polavaram Projects, shared their opinions and ideas with the gathering. The Minister felicitated Dr Sriramakrishnaia’s wife Girija and several other eminent engineers.
