​Amaravati: Government of India declared the Amaravati-Anantapur expressway as National Express way on Tuesday. This is the third such expressway announced by the Central government.

Following the announcement Chief Minister held a review meeting with the officials of the roads and buildings department at Velagapudi here on Tuesday and finalised alignment of expressway besides finalising designs of Benz Circle flyover, reviewing the progress of Vizag-Bheemili beach road and Bhogapuram-Bheemili state highway.

The advantage of Anantapur-Amaravati expressway is that the distance gets reduced by 100 km and the travel time gets reduced by five hours. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 18,103 crores. The 393.594 km long road will be developed as four and six lane roads. The length of four-lane expressway would be 185.4 km and the length of six-lane expressway would be 208.194 km.

The officials also listed out three alternative feeder roads from Kurnool to the expressway and the Chief Minister finalised second option, which takes off near Nannur and ends near Bagyanagar. Likewise, two feeder roads were proposed from Kadapa and the road near Kummarakottalu was finalsed.

The four-lane works of NH-9 on Vijayawada-Machilipatnam stretch would cost Rs 740.70 cores. The Benz Circle flyover which is a part of this section will be of 618 m length. It was proposed to complete the project by July 2018 and inaugurate it in August.

Naidu reiterated that the beauty of the Benz Circle should be preserved and suggested to set up under the flyover garden.
