It should be noted that chilli purchases came to a grinding halt, with traders stopping the activity citing problems with e-trading.

Addressing the gathering CPI district secretary Jangala Ajay Kumar demanded resumption of chilli purchases for the convenience of the farmers. “It is wrong to halt purchases without prior notice,” he stated. He lamented that prices have fallen to Rs 5,000 per quintal from Rs 12,000 per quintal.

K Veera Reddy, a farmer from Singarayakonda said that he suffered heavy loss, as purchases came to a halt. “I have cultivated the crop in three acres of land. Now, with the falling prices I cannot get back my investment,” he added and appealed to the government to take steps to secure a better price for farmers.
