Bhuma Nagi Reddy, MLA from Nandyal associated with the TDP, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Allagadda on Sunday.

Nandyal (Kurnool): Bhuma Nagi Reddy, MLA from Nandyal associated with the TDP, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Allagadda on Sunday. The 53-year old Reddy was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities in Nandyal in the afternoon. Eye-witness accounts said he collapsed while reading newspapers in the morning with symptoms of cardiac stroke.

When Nagi Reddy lost his wife Sobha Nagi Reddy, also former MLA from Allagadda, in a road accident in the run up to the general elections in 2014, he is survived by daughters Akhila Priya, MLA from Allagadda, Mounika Priya and son Jagath Vikyath Reddy.

When the end came, Akhilapriya was away in a temple ritual at Ahobilam in the district. Even as he was battling for life after a massive heart attack, Nagi Reddy was rushed to a hospital at Nandyal, 45km away from his native Allagadda.

He was put on life support systems and Medical and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas deputed a team of doctors headed by P Chandrasekhar, Head of Department of Cardiology wing of the Kurnool Government General Hospital (KGGH), to attend on Nagi Reddy. Before the team reached the place, he was officially declared dead by Dr Md Ali, cardiologist from the KGGH, who rushed to the Nadyal hospital in advance.

A doctor treated him told The Hans India that Nagi Reddy was a chronic heart patient who underwent a bypass surgery some two decades ago. He suffered a stroke six months ago and he tested positive for infection in pancreas in a private hospital in Hyderabad a week ago.

The body was shifted to his residence at Allagadda after it was kept at the Nandyal party office for some time enabling his followers to pay him last respects. A pall of gloom descended over Allagadda with a stream of his followers and admirers filing past to take a glimpse of their leader.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari visited Allagadda and consoled the bereaved family members. A battery of ministers from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and leaders from the TDP and the other major political parties reached the town to condole the death. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock over his demise.

According to family members of Nagi Reddy, his funeral will take place at Sobha Ghat on the outskirts of Allagadda where the body of his wife was laid to rest at 3pm on Monday. Both the CM and the Opposition leader are expected to take part in the funeral.

Nara Lokesh, party general secretary, spent more than an hour with his family members, comforting them at Allagadda. His brother-in-law and Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy reached Nandyal soon after hearing the news.

Among those who reached Nandyal to condole the death included Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy, JC Diwakar Reddy, former Minister NMD Farooq, Budda Raja Sekhar Reddy, Shilpa Mohan Reddy, BV Jaya Nageshwar Reddy.
