An emotional and tearful farewell was given to Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy who died of cardiac arrest on Sunday and his last rites were performed with state honours in his native town Allagadda on Monday. 

Kurnool: An emotional and tearful farewell was given to Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy who died of cardiac arrest on Sunday and his last rites were performed with state honours in his native town Allagadda on Monday.

Thousands of mourners drawn from all walks of life attended the funeral and gave a touching send-off to the senior TDP leader from Rayalaseema. Many women joined the funeral procession at Allagadda which started from the MLA’s house to the funeral ground Shoba Ghat, where his wife Shoba was buried.

The family members were in a deep shock and grief as Nagi Reddy was the only surviving head of the family. He was given a touching send-off by the people of Kurnool and Kadapa district.

Paying homage to the departed leader, the Chief Minister said the services of Bhuma to the party won’t go waste.

He said Kurnool has a unique tradition of politics and Bhuma is a versatile leader who has left his indelible mark in the hearts of the people of Allagadda as well as Nandyal. The services extended to the party and to the public are exemplary and everyone feels proud of him, said the Chief Minister.

Naidu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family members and assured all support to them in this hour of grief. Naidu told Akhila Priya and Mohan Reddy that the party would be with them all along. He said Akhila Priya would fulfil the dreams of Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh, who learnt about the demise of Bhuma Nagi Reddy on Sunday flew to Nandyal from Hyderabad and stayed at Nandyal with the grief-stricken family.

Later in the morning, he arrived to Allagadda and participated in the funeral procession along with in-charge minister K Atcham Naidu.

Along with Naidu, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Council Chairman A Chaikrapani, Deputy Chief Ministers KE Krishna Murthy, Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa, ministers K Atcham Naidu, Paritala Suneetha, Palle Raghunath Reddy, Prattipati Pulla Rao, Devineni Uma Maheshwar Rao, Nara Lokesh, MPs SPY Reddy, Butta Renuka, TG Venkatsh, former ministers Erasu Pratap Reddy, NMD Farooq, PAC Chairman Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, MLAs Gowru Cheritha, BC Janardhan Reddy, Y Bal Nagi Reddy and Y Sai Prasad Reddy were present.
