​Amaravati: Declaring it as an auspicious day, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu thanked the Central government for approving special assistance for the state.

Replying to the discussion on Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Legislative Council on Thursday, Naidu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the special assistance to the state and 100 per cent funding for the Polavaram.

Also thanking Union ministers M Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley and Uma Bharti, he said, “I had visited Delhi 26 times to pursue the issue and I am very happy today as the Union Cabinet has approved both Special Assistance and total funding for Polavaram Project.

The Central government will provide entire funds for Polavaram project through Nabard. The Centre will also extend financial support to various projects through foreign aid and it will be borne by the Centre.”

Earlier in the day, CPI member PJ Chandrasekhar found fault with government’s involvement in the religious activities of the people saying that the amount of Rs 5,000 crore which was spent on Krishna and Godavari Pushkaralu is an unproductive expenditure.

Independent member MVS Sharma also flayed the Governor’s address and said that there is no clarity on the backward areas development scheme, which was not quantified.

He said that there is no mention of suicides of farmers and students in the Governor`s address. He alleged that the state government is imposing undeclared emergency in the state while suppressing the people’s movements.
