ACB unearths illegal assets worth 17.2 cr so far

​Vijayawada: Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) R P Thakur said that ACB officials registered 5 disproportionate asset cases and 30 trap cases on officials of different departments up to February 2017.

He said that unaccounted cash of Rs 13 lakh was seized and disproportionate assets worth Rs 17.20 crore were unearthed during the raids conducted by ACB officials in 2017. Addressing the media persons here at Pandit Nehru Bus Station complex on Friday, he said that ACB reimbursed Rs 36.41 lakh to 102 people who had complained against the corrupt officials in the state and also briefed the media on various cases related to disproportionate assets, trap cases and important convictions in 2017.

He said that the state government is committed to curb corruption activities and sanctioned a new court at Rajahmundry to try ACB cases pertaining to Rajahmundry and Eluru ranges. The government has sanctioned Rs 8.2 crore for construction of ACB range office buildings, he added.

He said that the ACB is getting information from people and external agencies including Central Bureau of Investigation to prevent corruption in government offices and the state government would soon provide a call center to eradicate corruption activities.

“ACB officials were working for growth of public happiness index and development of state. The state government should strengthen ACB department by appointing more officials,” he urged. ACB OSD Abraham Lincoln, Joint Directors Nagendra Kumar, Gangadhar, Mohan Rao and other officials were present.
