Speaking to The Hans India, she said that two to three square metres of space was enough for kitchen garden at home for cultivating organic vegetables with waste materials from kitchen. According to her, it requires approximately 100 grams of leafy vegetable seeds to produce pesticide-free green vegetables from kitchen garden.

Kitchen garden would reduce pollution levels at home. Tea powder, pulp from vegetables after making juice and other vegetable waste are useful for the raising a kitchen garden, she pointed out.

Small bins, waste bottles and other waste bins are enough to plant vegetables at kitchen garden for cultivating organic vegetables and fruits.

Sridevi, a homemaker, says growing vegetables in kitchen gardens would be handy as one can pick up a vegetable of their choice. She suggested to the working women to avoid ordering food online from restaurants as they would spoil health.

She further stated that spending some time in kitchen garden will provide relief and it’s a great stress buster. A few women are selling their kitchen garden organic vegetables through WhatsApp and Facebook to their friends in the city.

Sarada said plastic pots should be avoided for planting the saplings because they would prevent growth of plants. Soil in the pots should be changed once in six to eight months, she added. She advised the people to spend at least one hour in a week to protect the kitchen gardens.
