TDP MP from Vijayawada confronted Transport Commissioner Balasubramanyam at his office and hurled abuses at him

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam MP from Vijayawada Kesineni Srinivas created commotion at the Deputy Transport Commissioner’s office in the city. Srinivas along with Vijayawada central MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao and MLC Budda Venkanna stalled Transport Commissioner N Balasubramanyam for nearly two hours and even roughed up security personnel of the commissioner.

Srinivas entered into an argument with the Transport Commissioner alleging him of indulging in corruption. Retaliating this, Balasubramanyam said if he opens his mouth many things would come out about the private bus operators who were indulging in many illegal practices.

The issue was triggered by some trade union leaders of the Telugu Desam party who had come to the DTC office to give a representation to the Transport Commissioner about the alleged illegal activities of the private operators.

The TD leaders alleged that the officials were reluctant to receive their complaints and the same was informed to Kesineni Srinivas. Tensions prevailed at the DTC office as Kesineni Srinivas barged into the office with hundreds of his supporters.

By the time TD leaders reached the spot, the Transport Commissioner was about to leave the office. The TD workers blocked his way and stalled him for more than two hours.

Kesineni alleged that the transport department officials are being managed by the YSRC leaders and allowing the buses belonging to them without permits. He said around 150 buses of Orange Travels that belongs to one Sunil Reddy, a benami of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy were in operation without valid permits and 250 such buses were running across the state. Why the officials were not taking action against them, he argued.

The TD leaders demanded an apology from the Transport Commissioner for not accepting their petition. However, Balasubramnyam denied the allegations and refused to apologise. MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao and MLC Budda Venkanna tried to broker peace between the commissioner and the MP but in vain.

Balasubramanyam said: “With due respects to the Chief Minister I am keeping silent. This is not the way a public representative should behave with a public servant and an IPS officer.”
