Don’t part with lands for NPP, appeals CITU

Srikakulam: With the decision of Japan-based Toshiba Company to withdraw from nuclear reactors manufacturing, uncertainty is prevailing over setting up of proposed Nuclear power plant (NPP) at Kovvada in Ranastalam mandal, averred Center for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) state president Ch Narasinga Rao.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, “Citing increase in production costs, technical snags, problems in design of reactors and other factors Toshiba decided to withdraw from nuclear projects construction. This move spells trouble for USA-based Westinghouse Electric, which entered into an agreement with Indian government to construct NPP with support of Toshiba,” he said.
