Anantapur: Minister for IT and Information Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy reviewed the drinking water position in the district with Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials of the Panchayat Raj department. He said that 5 tmcft of water is kept as reserve in Chitravathi Balancing Reservoir and another 2 tmcft of water in Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir (PABR).

He said that Rs 1.31 crore have been sanctioned to take up repairs of bores, deepening of bore-wells and for transporting water to water scarce villages. Nearly, 45 villages are facing acute drinking water shortage had been identified in the district and water through tankers were being supplied on a daily basis. RWS superintendent engineer Hareram Naik was also present.

The Minister also asked officials to take up measures in Puttaparthi for improving groundwater levels in his constituency and take up digging of farm ponds and soaking pits. Palle also held discussions with Roads and Buildings officials on speeding up execution of road contracts in the district. New roads including Obuladevacheruvu to Mohamedabad cross and Molakavemula village will be taken up with a cost of Rs 31.68 crore and Rs 30 crore respectively and said tenders will be called for soon.

Also, road extension works will be taken up in Puttaparthi constituency for 61 km at a cost of Rs 6 crore while another Rs 25 crore will be spent for roads extension in Penukonda division. He said that all poll promises are being implemented gradually in his constituency. The Minister also disbursed cheques worth Rs 5.74 lakh to beneficiaries under CM Relief Fund.
