Chittoor: The TDP nominee K Hemalatha, who filed nomination for by-election to the 33rd division in Chittoor Municipal Corporation (CMC), has won unanimously as other candidates withdrew their nominations in support of her.

The High Court of Hyderabad had instructed the State Election Commission (SEC) to hold by-election for 33rd and 38th divisions on or before April 15. The SEC decided to conduct by-elections on April 9. The by-elections were necessitated with the demise of corporators Prasad Reddy and K Anuradha.

Assistant Returning Officer A Chandrababu has issued a certificate of election to Hemalatha at municipal corporation office here on Monday. Several TDP leaders have greeted Hemalatha on winning by-election unopposed. The by-election to 38th division will be held on April 9 in which four candidates are in fray. It may be mentioned here that Hemalatha is the aspirant for CMC Mayor seat which is reserved for BC woman.

It is not clear whether the TDP high command would endorse her candidature as certain TDP woman corporators are also reportedly vying for the Mayor seat.
