Amaravati: While the ruling TDP and Opposition YSRC are trading barbs over various issues and involving in heated exchanges, YSRCP Mydukuru MLA S Raghurami Reddy appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to adorn traditional Telugu attire (dhoti) at least on the occasion of Ugadi. He made a personal request to the Chief Minister on this front

The senior politician lamented that only four members in the Assembly are attending the House in traditional attire. Expressing concern over vanishing Telugu tradition and culture, he recalled that majority of Chief Ministers preferred dhoti. “We should take a leaf out from Tamil Nadu, where the leaders adhere to their culture. At least, the Chief Minister should wear ‘dhoti’ on Ugadi festival day. It will send a good message to future generations,” he sought to advice.

He reminded that except T Anjaiah, Kiran Kumar Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu all other Chief Ministers preferred dhotis. Reddy, who was elected for the first time on Telugu Desam ticket from Mydukuru in 1985 said the politicians are also flag bearers of Telugu tradition and culture.

Expressing concern over changing trends, he said that KE Krishna Murthy, Hanmanthraya Chowdary and K Appala Naidu are attending the house in dhoti. He also said the members, who adorn dhotis give respect to others and quoted examples of former Chief Ministers NT Rama Rao and YS Rajasekhar Reddy.
