New Delhi: YSRCP MP, B Renuka, here on Tuesday welcomed the setting up of Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER) in Tirupati, while suggesting the need for more investment on scientific research in the country.

Speaking on the amendment to the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education & Research (NITSER) (2nd Amendment) Bill - 2016, she said that science education needed to be implemented across all layers of society and the benefits be made accessible to the large population of this country.

“In comparison to other developed countries, India's investment in scientific research is very low. The contribution of private sector towards research was insignificant in our country whereby the dependence on the government was more,” she noted. She added that the fruits of scientific research were visible in the country and had immensely contributed to the improvement in standards of living.

“Though the country had made progress in setting up institutions of higher learning they were not able to cope up with the growing population. We should further note that the aspirations of the people were growing and only institutes of higher learning would cater to their needs better,” she suggested.
