‘Democracy should begin at home’

Tanuku: The inaugural session of a two-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on ‘Ambedkar and Indian Democracy’ was held at SKDS College for Women in Tanuku on Thursday.

The program started with lighting the lamp by Chitturi Usha Rani, Prof. Kancha Ilaiah, Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad; Prof. T.Narayana, Department of English, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam Nandigam Sudhakar, Prof. Dr. J Rani Ratna Prabha, Asst. Prof. Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.

In her presidential remarks Dr. P. Aruna talked about the excellence of education through value-based education, and expressed that we need to analyse the value of democracy, importance of democracy and knowing the value of democracy. G.A.K. Nehru, Convener said that society is full of inequality and there is a need for abolishing of inequality. Giving gender respect and equal Justice to all in society is a must, he said.

Keynote address by Prof. Kancha Ilaiah dwelt about how democracy should start in the family and how family should teach their children the importance of democratic values. He raised the issue of learning English language as very important and that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the first untouchable in graduation. He said that three principles are very important in human life- Production, perception and protection
