Galla seeks better price for chillies

Guntur: Guntur MP Galla Jayadev urged the Centre to take steps to get a better price to the chillies in the backdrop of falling of prices to Rs 8,000 per quintal which was sold at Rs 15,000 per quintal during the last year. Speaking in the Loka Sabha in the Zero Hour, the MP said that the farmers have already incurred heavy losses due to falling of chilli prices, if the same situation continues, they will incur heavy losses. He urged the Centre to lend a helping hand to the farmers and take steps get more export orders.

He urged the Centre to take steps to purchase chillies at Rs12,000 per quintal and provide facilities to keep more chilli stocks in the godowns and cold storage units.

More farmers cultivated chillies this year as they got a better price last year and that led to increase of production. He said this is also one of the reasons for reduction of demand for chillies in the state. He said that chillies are being cultivated in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharastra states and added that if the Centre takes steps to increase chilli exports it would be useful to the farmers.
