​Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that he would build a world-class capital which will be a matter of pride for the Telugu people.

He said ‘A’ should stand for Amma and Amaravati for Telugu people. Naidu participated as the chief guest at the Telugu New Year (Hevalambi) Ugadi celebrations organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Wednesday.

Noted astrologer Vedantam Rajagopala Chakravarthy read out the Panchagam about the future of Andhra Pradesh particularly about the administration, economic conditions of the state and agriculture position to mark the Ugadi. He predicted that though the State would record less rainfall, there will be good production for crops like cotton, chilli and irrigated dry crops.

The astrologer said Andhra Pradesh would maintain cordial relations with the Central government and all projects taken up by the State government would be completed.

He further said the income and expenditure of the state will be equal. The state will get financial assistance from Union government to continue its administrative activities. The Chief Minister was elated over the Panchagam which was read out by Rajagopala Chakravarthy.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said Ugadi is one of the most important festivals of Andhra Pradesh and people of neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also celebrate the Ugadi festival.

He said Ugadi pickle made of a mixture of many ingredients, is special to the Telugu people and they begin the New Year by making and tasting the Ugadi pickle.

Referring to new capital Amaravati, the Chief Minister said the TDP government is committed to constructing a world class capital Amaravati and lay seven new roads at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore to connect to the capital.

He underlined the need to protect the Telugu culture, heritage, traditions and language. He said the government would spend Rs 100 crore to promote Kuchipudi dance and training in the dance is being imparted to 50,000 children in over 1,000 schools in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister announced that Academies will be constituted in the State to promote arts, culture, literature and music. He said Andhra Pradesh has a very long history and it was once ruled by Satavahanas.

He said the State administration would continue its activities smoothly and ensure farmers get remunerative prices this year. He said diverting of Godavari waters to Krishna river will be very useful to the farmers as well as the state.

Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Chairman of the Legislative Council A Chakrapani, Chief Secretary Ajeya Kallam, Ministers Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Dr Kamineni Srinivas, Prathipati Pulla Rao, Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Budha Prasad, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha and Mayor Koneru Sridhar attended the Ugadi celebrations.
