Amaravati: Excise minister Kollu Ravindra said that CC Cameras will be installed at all the wine shops across the state to keep a vigil on the timings being maintained by the liquor shops and to curb illegal belt shops.

While replying to a question in the Legislative Council on Thursday over action being initiated on the report of the Special Investigating Team(SIT) appointed to investigate on the illicit liquor sale minister Ravindra said the New Liquor Policy, which has to be approved by the both houses, assured the members that the government is committed to curb illicit sale of liquor through belt shops and other means.

TDP member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy who asked the minister to table the report of SIT which investigated into the deaths occurred in Swarna Bar and Restaurant in Vijayawada on December 7, 2015. While indirectly referring former MLA Malladi Vishnu, who owns the bar, he said that the culprits in the incident are roaming freely by taking bail from the courts and the government is not initiating any action to lift the bail.

BJP member Somu Veerraju also blamed the government for not curbing illicit sale of liquor through belt shops. He said that despite complaining to police officials about the 25 belt shops located in the Fishermen colonies in Kakinada, no action was taken.

The organisers of belt shops are earning crores of rupees by selling liquor illegally, which has to be eradicated immediately for protecting poor fishermen, he said ,Replying to their queries, minister said that the SIT has submitted its report to the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada and police will file charge sheet in the case very soon.

He said that 32 cases were registered during 2014 elections in the state over illicit liquor sale and charge sheets were filed in those cases. He said that six people died and 39 suffered illness in the Swarna Bar incident and Rs 5 lakh ex gratia was paid by the government to the deceased.

During SIT investigation it was found that cyanide was mixed in the water, which claimed the lives of six people, minister said. Along with Swarna Bar, two other Bars belonging to Malladi Vishnu were seized by the police, he said. A CI and excise superintendent were also suspended in the case, he added.
