Eluru: CPM State Committee Secretary P Madhu and CITU State Vice President V Umamaheswara Rao along with CPM district Secretary B Balaram visited the disputed Ananda Aqua Pre-processing unit at Nallavarithota village in Mogalturu mandal on Thursday. B Balaram expressed shock over the asphyxiation incident at the aqua processing unit that claimed five lives on Thursday morning. They consoled the bereaved families and demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

Speaking on the occasion, State CPM Secretary P Madhu alleged that the negligence of the state government, which encouraged the pollutant industries in the state, has led to the deaths of five innocent workers. He stated that the CPM for over three years agitating against the pollution in the green West Godavari district. However, he alleged that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu neglected to shift such hazardous factories from the habitats in the district. He said that the people are paying high price due to the negligence of the government.

He stated that the CPM is demanding the arrest of the Ananda Group of Companies management immediately and stop the construction of all pollutant industries and aqua processing units. He also demanded the Government to stop the construction of Mega Aqua Food Park at Tundurru, which is in the midst of the village. “This latest incident shows how hazardous the aqua processing units are. However, the Government has tried to escape from all the queries raised by CPM. It just said to control the pollution. If the government when demanded had taken action, such a situation would not have arisen” he added.

CPM District Secretary B Balaram stated that as the management did not take necessary security measures, five lives have been lost in the leakage of Ammonia gas in the Sump. The CPM Secretary demanded an ex-gratia of Rs.25 lakh to the bereaved families and the Ananda Group of Companies, the management of the unit should pay Rs.25 lakhs to the victims’ families.

Balaram stated that the villagers of Tundurru, Jonnalagaruvu, Kamsali Bethapudi villages are fighting against the setting up of Aqua Mega Food Park sensing such danger of leakages and hazardous effluents.
