Delay in installing Ambedkar statue condemned
Utter commotion prevailed at the municipal council meeting held here on Thursday as councilors protested against the delay in installing Dr BR Ambedkar statue in the municipal office premises and staged a sit-in near the municipal chairman’s podium.
Pithapuram: Utter commotion prevailed at the municipal council meeting held here on Thursday as councilors protested against the delay in installing Dr BR Ambedkar statue in the municipal office premises and staged a sit-in near the municipal chairman’s podium.
While the chairman, Karanam Chinna Rao, was about to go ahead with the meeting’s agenda, councilor Khandavilli Lovaraju displaying a placard around his neck obstructed the meeting. He demanded an explanation from the municipal authorities for not implementing a resolution on Ambedkar statue, adopted a year ago.
He threatened to launch an indefinite strike if the resolution was not implemented immediately. Floor leader Gandi Babji sought a categorical statement from the Chair when the statue is going to be installed.
Not satisfied with the municipal commissioner’s explanation, municipal councilors, cutting across their political affiliations, raised slogans demanding immediate installation of the statue and stood up in their places to lodge their protest over the delay. However, they relented when the municipal chairman intervened and assured them of installing the Ambedkar statue by April 14, birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar.
