Tirupati: The Hindu Chaitanya Samithi (HCS) has warned the state government not to give permission for the liquor shops near temples and in residential areas. The Samithi leaders demanded the government to withdraw its decision for setting up a liquor shop at a distance of 70 feet from the Vinayaka temple at Ambedkar Colony in Auto Nagar.

Samithi state president T Omkar warned of launching a protest if the government goes ahead with its decision. Speaking to the media here on Thursday, he also demanded that the government should close liquor shops in a phased manner every year.
