Rajamahendravaram: Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) evacuee farmers committee has demanded for withdrawal of proposals to amend new Land Acquisition Act (2013). Leaders from various political parties including former MPs Vundavalli Arun Kumar and Midium Babu Rao took part in the round table meeting held in Rajamahendravaram on Thursday and passed several resolutions seeking justice for the farmers who are losing their lands due to the construction of PLIS.
The round table meet has passed a resolution demanding payment of compensation for the farmers losing their lands as per the market price and decided to visit the project site on 3rd of April.CPI (M) urban district secretary T Arun presided over the meet. Former MPs Vundavalli Arun Kumar and Midium Babu Rao have opined that the construction of PLIS is mere waste if the government is committed to complete the Polavaram project by 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Vundavalli recalled that YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s government had formulated the plan to construct lift irrigation scheme as part of Sujala Sravanthi and added that the proposal had been withdrawn due to the objections of CWC. He alleged that the government is just carrying Godavari water into the sea through Pattiseema project and demanded justice for the farmers who are losing their lands due to the project.
State president of evacuees association Midium Babu Rao alleged that the state government is doing injustice to farmers with Land Acquisition Act (2013) by promising the implementation of the act. He criticized that government is making real estate business with lands by issuing various G.Os as per 2013 act. He mentioned that there should not be disparity in compensation for the land acquired for one project and made it clear that the compensation should also be paid for the dependents of persons who are losing their lands. He called on the people to fight for the compensation by protecting the Act.
CPI (M) urban district secretary T Arun expressed anguish that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states are following Gujarat which is implementing amendments to 2013 Land Acquisition Act. He alleged that the state government is trying to grab the lands of farmers by making amendments to the 2013 act.
