Rush at swimming pools in Guntur
Swimming pools in the city, of late are brimming with people. While children and youth are into swimming to learn life savings skills, middle-aged are learning as they are becoming health conscious.

Guntur: Swimming pools in the city, of late are brimming with people. While children and youth are into swimming to learn life savings skills, middle-aged are learning as they are becoming health conscious.
Currently, 135 persons are learning swimming at NTR Municipal Corporation Swimming Pool at Pattabhipuram and the footfalls are expected to increase in the next three months due to soaring temperatures. The officials are expecting at least 200 people to join.
Moreover, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) is conducting summer training camp in the month of May every year to impart life saving skills. Children of 8 - 16 age group will be taught life savings skills during the one month and competitions will also be conducted. Prizes will be given to the winners and certificates will be given to all the children who attended the summer coaching classes.
It should be noted GMC has a proposal to construct another swimming pool with international standards in the Pattabhipuram Swimming Pool premises, but it was confined to papers.
Speaking to The Hans India swimming coach at NTR Swimming Pool, Lagadapati Venubabu said that the demand for swimming has been gradually increasing from last three years. “Three years ago, there were only 50 members now the number has been increased to 135. During the summer, members are expected to touch 300,” he informed.
Venubabu said that the number batches might be increased depending on strength. “At present 15 women are learning swimming. There is separate batch for women. One month is enough for to learn life saving skills,” he averred.
