Visakhapatnam: Andhra University entered into an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) here at the Senate Hall on Friday to help provide all academic services from admissions stage to results being rendered by the Andhra University School of Distance Education (AUSDE), online.

The AUSDE is offering Certificate, Diploma, Under Graduation, Post-Graduation and professional courses to over 60,000 students through distant mode very successfully. Major activities, including admissions and examinations, were computerised using stand-alone operating system and Foxpro data base which are not amenable for online and web-based technology besides it is not robust in terms of security.

Considering the need of upgrading technology, online and web-based operations, Vice- Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao has set up a panel in November last with Prof S Pallam Setti and Prof K Nageswara Rao to advise necessary steps to be taken.
The AU has received proposals from Tata Consultancy Services among many other IT companies and when the panel has recommended the TCS for computerising admission module, including enquiry system, pre-examination and post-examination module with online payments, the authorities duly accepted.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice- Chancellor Prof Nageswara Rao informed that the SDE admissions, issuance of hall tickets, results and payment of fee would be provided online and the students could join the course of his or her choice from this academic year depending upon qualifications without any trouble. Entering into MoU with the TCS is as a part of Make in India initiative of the Central government and helpline numbers would be provided to clarify the doubts to be raised by the students, he explained.

“This initiative would make the School of Distance Education complete digital and it was also under serious consideration to go for similar online service in case of regular courses too”, the VC added. TCS Strategic Business head Raja Reddy said they are happy in having a tie-up with the AU to provide quality and value-based services. Director of School of Distance Education Prof B Mohini, former SDE Directors Prof L D Sudhakar Babu, Prof N L Narasimha Rao, Prof Hrishikesava Rao and faculty members were present.

Earlier, Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao and TCS representatives Raja Reddy, Krishna Dundigala and Sasidhar Dasari exchanged the copies of MoU.
