Visakhapatnam: In his death, 25year-old N Suresh, an auto-rickshaw driver, gave a new lease of life to five patients as his organs (kidneys, liver, heart and lungs) were donated by his family members after he was declared brain dead at Pinnacle Hospitals in the Health City.
Suresh was a native of Anandapuram area and on Wednesday met with a road accident while travelling on a bike. He received grievous head injuries. He was admitted to Pinnacle Hospitals and pronounced brain dead by medical team of the hospital on Thursday night based on the scanning and other medical reports.

The Jeevandan team was called and after counselling, the family members gave their consent to donate his organs. After retrieval of the organs, they were allotted through Jeevandan to various hospitals. The heart and lungs were allotted to Global Hospital and Fortis Hospital in Chennai, while the liver was given to Manipal Hospital in Vijayawada, one kidney was allotted to Care Hospital in Vizag and another kidney retained in Pinnacle Hospitals.

Green corridor was organised from Pinnacle Hospitals to Vizag Airport by city traffic police to transport the organs to airport in an ambulance. As time is of essence in organ transplants, which should be done within 24 hours of retrieval of the organ, the Vijayawada police and Chennai police provided green corridor from airport to the hospitals, said a released issued by Pinnacle Hospitals.
